So after host appreciation day we only had a few days left in Armenia and we made the most out of them. On Saturday we went planting with our host grandfather and let me tell you, it was miserable. We woke up to leave at 6 but in true Belizean time we did not leave until about 6:45. We got there and the rest of the people had been there planting since about 5:30 and they told us to go cut down a tree to use as a planting stick. We had no idea what kind of tree or anything so after wandering around for a bit asking "is this tree okay" and receiving a "no" each time our 15 year old host uncle decided to help us. After he cut down the trees we had to peel the bark and sharpen the end. Then you go to the field, pound the stick into the ground to make about a 3 inch hole, and then drop 4-5 kernels of corn into the hole. Then you take a big step and do it again. And then you take another big step and do it again. And then again. And then again. And again. For 3 and a half hours…. Afterwards we got home though and the woman had killed two chickens and made caldo so we got a nice lunch. I tried to stay home and kill and clean the chickens with the woman but they did not let me and I really wish they did. This may or may not make me less of a man but I’m going to say it anyway. I would much rather go to the river and do wash than plant.
On the last day of CBT then we went to Xunantunich. These are beautiful Mayan ruins not too far out of Belmopan. I will let the pictures speak for me.
