I’m not sure how much of that story you caught, but it basically is the following: “There was a village made up of all the body parts. One day the alcalt called a meeting for the whole village to come. Therefore, all the body parts made their way slowly to the alcalt’s house. The eye came, the heart came, the lungs came, the feet came, and all the other body parts made their way there. In the back of all of them slowly came the anus. When the eye got to the thatched house he said, “I’m going to sit in the front for I am the most important. No one could have made it here without me seeing the way.” However, the lungs disagreed. He said, “No, I am the most important and therefore I should get to sit in the front. Without me, you would not have air to breath and therefore see.” The heart then came and made his argument. “Cho!!! I am the most important. I need the front seat because I pump the blood to the whole body and keep it alive.” While all this was going on the anus was quietly in the back. He was the humble, quiet body part in the town and therefore was considered unimportant and a pushover. However, when he heard all this arguing he spoke up in a soft voice, “Please everyone, without me you would all eat “poop” and die.”
The moral of this story is thus: everyone in a community is equal and important. Just because someone is quiet or not as learned as someone else does not make them less needed or important. Therefore, everyone should be valued and treated equally.
Anyway, it sounds better in Q’eqchi as you can plainly tell, but it is just a funny story passed down to teach respect and equality.
Also, I have one more video from this camp, but they are taking forever to upload so I will put it on my blog later.
